bastaoroucod laeltt Hi,

I still don't get the concept of the way this website, but it looks very promising.

I downloaded the source code, and tried to compile it. It was an everlasting saga. I tried compiling it using Cygwin on Windows. Apparently, this didn't go well even after trying to modify the code a bit - I got it compiled, but it crashed when trying to compile your edit distance example. I then tried to compile it on 2 Solaris and 2 Linux mahcines (thank god for a work with many operating systems ;-). Each one gave me a different try of error, so the last resort, which was another Linux machine got it compiled properly.

On the Linux and Windows machine where I got it compiled - I got a crash trying to compile the edit distance exmaple. The backtrace on Linux was:

  1. 0 0xffffe002 in ?? ()
  2. 1 0x42028a73 in abort () from /lib/tls/

I think you should make compilation of the source code more stable or enable dyna to compile through the website (as is written somewhere in this website) - it would have made my life a lot easier to evaluate the feasibility of using dyna for my needs.

I'm working on my thesis in the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel with the guidance of Ari Rappaport. I need to do some tweaking on the edit distance algorithm for my thesis, so I'd really like to use Dyna for that purpose.

Can you please send me the edit distance sample compiled and also fix this problem? Thanks, Tsahi

Dear Tsahi - thanks for the long comment and for your interest. I'm sorry for your frustration.
Could you resend your bug report (and compilation request) to the development team at the contact address as suggested? That way, we can have an ordinary email conversation with multiple people involved, which I think would be more convenient and also faster.
In that email, can you also specify the OS and compiler versions you tried, especially the one that allowed dynac to compile but not to run? Any error messages from failed compilation attempts would also be great. Whatever you have time for.
We are just distributing Dyna for the first time now (in an unstable alpha version), and reports like yours are very helpful in detecting annoying portability issues. We are able to run on various machines here at Johns Hopkins (unrelated Linux systems with gcc 3.3 or 2.96). We're just now investigating some problems with compiling on Solaris.

Hi, I already sent an email but got no acknowledment if it was received, what is done with it and when will I be able to continue my research using Dyna. Please email me or contact me through this website on this issue. Please note that it will help me a lot of you can just send me the compiled edit distance example to begin with. Thanks, --Tsahil 01:01, 7 Sep 2004 (EDT)

Answering this by email; sorry. Jason 02:23, 10 Sep 2004 (EDT)
